TRIAL ATTORNEY

The Disciplinary Board of the Hawai'i Supreme Court requests applications from Hawai'i licensed attorneys for a position with the Office of Disciplinary Counsel. The successful candidate will supervise the investigation of assigned attorney discipline matters, recommend action to be taken, prepare and present evidentiary cases to a hearing officer or panel, and brief and argue cases to the Disciplinary Board and the Hawai'i Supreme Court. Other responsibilities include conducting seminars and providing informal advice to members of the Bar about ethics issues, as well as arranging the disposition of abandoned law practices.

Applicants should have at least three years of experience in presenting cases to courts or other tribunals. Experience in applying the Hawai'i Rules of Professional Conduct or other attorney ethics rules is desired, but not required. Full-time position. Investigate complaints concerning attorney discipline and regulation. Must have excellent writing and verbal skills, training and experience in investigative work, bachelor's degree (or equivalent), valid Hawai'i driver's license, and insured automobile available for business use. JUDGE LESLIE A. HAYASHI ELECTED TO THE NATIONAL COUNCIL OF LAWYER DISCIPLINARY BOARDS - Judge Leslie A. Hayashi has been elected to serve on the board of the National Council of Lawyer Disciplinary Boards (NCLDB). Her three year term begins July 1, 2013. The NCLDB is a national organization providing exchange of information and ideas relating to the administration, conduct and improvement of formal disciplinary proceedings among its 27 members which include the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands. Judge Hayashi is in her third three year term on Hawai`i’s Disciplinary Board and has served as Secretary and Vice-Chair. She is also a member of the Committee to Revise the Hawai`i Rules of Professional Conduct.
